What is the Goal of Laiko? – LAIKO ‘TO! (July 10, 2024)

LAIKO ‘TO!

What is the goal of Laiko?

If we are talking about the Laity – who make 98+% of the Church – the goal is to be in active service to the Church, and more importantly, to live out our being Catholic everyday! We have seen the studies and graphs, Catholics are dwindling in number. Active Catholics who are living out their faith. There are more and more lapsed or nominal Catholics. Sari sari store Catholics who just pick and choose what they want to believe in. So what is the goal of all of us Laity? To bring back the fervor or Catholicism in our daily lives!

And if we are talking about Laiko as an organization, our goal is to empower the Laity in the Dioceses and Organizations. Empower them for what? Empower them to go out into the world – especially the peripheries – and bring back people to… you guessed it…. active service to the Church, and living out their Catholic lives everyday.

It may seem like a simple task, but considering the numbers we see, it is a task that needs to be brought to the grassroots, a task we need to remind people about, and a task that we need to give people the tools to do something about.

And so when we get feedback like the quote above (from Bishop Guillermo Afabel of the Diocese of Digos), it fuels us to keep engaging with social media, and keep going to the Regions and re-energize, re-activate and empower the Laity to do the work that is needed.

I hope with all these efforts you will know more what Laiko is all about. That you will learn to love, not only Laiko, but our Catholic faith. And that all this will spur us to more participation in the Church, and witnessing in our Catholic everyday lives!
