Laiko Tayo! We are the Laity!
We started a LAIKO ‘TO! Vlog a few weeks back, but we never got around to it since then – due to many factors, mostly the busy-ness of things – but we still feel it is important to keep everyone updated and explain things to you. So why not a weekly column instead?
This column will delve more deeply into the engagements and programs that LAIKO is actively participating in, or organizing.
And let us begin with the quote above which was said by Bishop Isabelo Abarquez of Diocese of Calbayog during the Lay Leaders Regional Conference held there a few weeks ago.
LAIKO is INCLUSIVE because we accept groups to be part of LAIKO. We are not EXCLUSIVE. Now we have more than 50 National Lay Organizations, and we aim to reach 100% Arch/Diocesan Commissions and Councils of the Laity by the end of the year.
LAIKO is ALL-ENCOMPASSING. Each organization has it’s own unique apostolate, and all will help to sanctify themselves if carried out faithfully through God’s greater glory
LAIKO is ALL-EMBRACING. All these groups, councils, commissions, apostolates, charisms are embraced into one – iba’t ibang mukha, pangalan, vital statistics, apostolate – all in one! We are all brothers and sisters in Christ by virtue of baptism, and our goal is Heaven, a place for the Saints!
We are happily reminded about that as we continue to go to the Regions and meet the Laity through our Lay Leaders Conferences. Since Calbayog for the Ecclesiastical Province of Palo, we have gone to Davao (for the Ecclesiastical Province of Davao plus Dioceses of Marbel and Kidapawan), and to Dipolog (for the Ecclesiastical Province of Ozamiz).
We continue to plan out the Conferences for the rest of the Ecclesiastical Provinces, and we hope you will join us there. Save the Dates to follow!
Truly, LAIKO ‘TO! And we will continue to go and bring the energy, intensity and passion of the Laity back into active service to the Church!
