RING THE CHURCH BELLS!
Ring out Justice.
RING THE CHURCH BELLS!
Honor the martyrs and heroes of the dark days of the Marcos’ Martial Law.
RING THE CHURCH BELLS!
Ring out solidarity with the victims and survivors.
Drink in their inspiration and burn with the passion of their activism, that could neither be quenched nor extinguished,
RING THE CHURCH BELLS!
Let them resound throughout the land.
RING THEM LOUD AND CLEAR,
so the world will know:
MARCOS IS NO HERO!
On November 18, 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte buried the last dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. This was an affront to survivors of the Marcos’ Martial Law. Every Filipino who is still paying the debt from the billions of pesos stolen by the Marcos family should be disturbed by such efforts of historic revision.
Now that Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. is running for president likely together with Sarah Duterte as his vice-president partner in the campaign, it is urgent for Church people to remind the public of the truth about the despotic leadership during the Marcos Martial Law and the Duterte administration (that also invoked Martial Law in Mindanao).
Now is a Kairos moment for the Christian faithful to rise with the nation
To SPEAK TRUTH and RING OUT THE CRY FOR JUSTICE!
We refuse to forget the misery of the dark days of the Marcos’ Martial Law.
We remember the unspeakable sufferings of many:
children who were orphaned; mothers and fathers who lost their sons and daughters; relatives still searching for the bodies of their loved ones disappeared under martial rule; the survivors of torture and imprisonment; and the multitude who suffered grinding poverty, exploitation, and oppression.
These stories must be told again and again, not because victims choose to continue the struggle or enjoy the re-telling and not for the sake of storytelling. These stories need to be told so that we will not forget.
Especially at this juncture in our nation’s life, we need to remind each other and speak the truth on historic accountability. Remembering—that the fascist attacks against the people (including violence against women; torture, cruelty and imprisonment; and, the salvaging of activists and common tao) were coupled with massive plunder of the nation’s coffers—is essential for keeping our vision for genuine freedom and democracy clearly and sharply defined..
Enough is Enough!
The nation’s wounds and pain inflicted by the Marcos’ Martial Law cannot be erased or revised by a family that has treated the wounds of the people carelessly.
We will always remember.
The way forward is towards ACCOUNTABILITY and JUSTICE!
To falsely claim Marcos as a hero by burying him at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is an insult to the Filipino people and an egregious offense against the heroes and martyrs of our land.
A tyrant can never be a hero.
A fascist despot can never be a hero.
A plunderer can never be a hero.
MARCOS IS NO HERO!
We do not want another Marcos who had profited from his family’s gluttony, greed, violence and oppression to assume the presidency. Once was already MORE THAN ENOUGH! No the return of the Marcoses to Malacanang!
